Joe Story

Hello Eagle Family!

My name is Joe Story and I am excited to begin my first year at Grandview Elementary School. This will be my 6th year as a school counselor in Washington County Schools. I have been at South Central Elementary for the past 5 years. I am familiar with some of the teachers, staff, and students at Grandview from coaching girls' and boys' middle school soccer for the past 5 years. My journey to becoming a school counselor is rather odd. I graduated from ETSU in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing Management. I spent my first 2 years working at David Crockett High School as an instructional assistant and assistant track coach while navigating different career opportunities. After my 2nd year at DCHS, I took a position at Bristol Motor Speedway working in their ticket sales department. As time went along I was still trying to find my passion and career that was the best fit for me. I decided to leave the motorsports industry and pursue a career in education. In the summer of 2015, I accepted a position with the Niswonger Foundation as a college and career advisor. I would travel around in the Northeast Tennessee region to high schools and assist high school seniors navigate the steps to help them with post-secondary opportunities (TN Promise, FAFSA, Financial Aid, etc). While working with the Niswonger Foundation I decided to get my Masters in school counseling and achieved my degree in May of 2018 from Carson-Newman University.

About Me

I am from Johnson City, TN. I went to Science Hill High School. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my 2-year-old son Davis, playing golf, spending time with friends and family, and watching any of my favorite sports teams (TN Football, TN, basketball, ETSU basketball, and the Atlanta Braves).

I look forward to getting to know the students, their families, faculty, and staff this school year.

My role as a school counselor is to meet the needs of students, parents, school staff, and the community. I will teach classroom lessons and will meet with students on an individual basis to help support their personal/emotional, academic and career needs. There will be times during the school year where I will focus on small group counseling, assist with school supplies, community outreach, EPIC and holiday assistance.

Thank you and I look forward to a great school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Story
