Washington County Schools of East Tennessee is comprised of 15 schools serving Pre-K through grade 12 with 8,270 students and 1,080 employees.

Superintendent

Mr. Jerry S. Boyd is in his twelfth year serving as a public school superintendent in Tennessee and is currently in his third school year as the Superintendent for Washington County Schools located in the "First TN" region in Northeast Tennessee.  Mr. Boyd was appointed by the Washington County Board of Education as the 26th superintendent ("Director of Schools") for the Washington County Schools district in April 2021. 

Mr. Boyd has over 29 years of public education experience, which includes service in three school systems and the Tennessee Department of Education.  He has also served as a classroom teacher (9-12 sciences); assistant principal (7-12), principal (7-12 and 9-12), district administrator for improvement and innovation, supervisor of technology, secondary curriculum supervisor, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, and a state-level assistant commissioner of education for both the Academic and Operations divisions.

Jerry is a proud husband to Stephanie Boyd, who is a career public educator who has served as a teacher for students with disabilities, a middle school ELA, science, and math teacher, and currently a regional ELA specialist. Together they share the joy of being proud parents of their three adult children: Killian, Calista, and Silas.
