National School Counseling Week 2025, “School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 3–7, 2025, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

Join us for the Hurricane Helene Flood Response Agencies: Partners in Recovery event, where agencies are collaborating to offer crucial repair and clean up services for affected families and communities.

The TISA funding formula updates the way Tennessee funds public education for the first time in over 30 years to empower each student to read proficiently by third grade, prepare each high school graduate for postsecondary success, and provide resources needed for all students to ensure they succeed.

Lamar Community Update
Lamar School has transitioned from being a shelter and donation site so we can prepare to welcome students back to school after Fall Break. As we transition to the next phase of crisis management, we are focusing on donations, rebuilding, and recovery. Hurricane Helene has had a devastating impact on our community. There are 10 Lamar families (17 students) that have lost their homes and all belongings during the flooding. Our community is moving past supply donations and is now focusing on monetary collections to help affected families. We will also be coordinating “Adopt a Family” and “Adopt a Student” programs. To participate in these programs, please contact Lamar School administration- Mr. Mark Merriman (Principal) via email at merrimanm@wcde.org and/or Mrs. Sara Leimkuhler (Assistant Principal)via email at leimkuhlers@wcde.org. Monetary donations for Lamar families who lost their homes can be made to Lamar School’s Mercy Fund. Make checks payable to Lamar Mercy Fund with Flood Relief in the memo. Washington County School-Age Childcare(SACC) will be available for all students currently enrolled in Washington County Schools. Services will be offered at Jonesborough Elementary and Boones Creek Elementary on the following days: Friday, October 4, and Monday through Thursday, October 7-10, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided. To pre-register your child, please contact Hannah Woodward at 423-753-1100. To save time during sign-in, please pre-register your child if possible. However, walk-ins are welcome as long as space allows. Walk-ins will need to complete registration at drop-off before leaving their child.

OFFICIAL DONATION SITE FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY
Crossroads Christian Church, 1300 Suncrest Drive, Gray, TN, is now the sole drop-off site for donations. Items will be accepted 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
Items currently needed include blankets, towels, water (gallons or bottles), hygiene products, diapers, and formula. ALL DONATIONS WILL REMAIN IN WASHINGTON COUNTY.
Additional needs will be assessed in the coming days.
Adhering to these guidelines will help ensure items are disseminated to our neighbors as quickly and efficiently as possible.
